“This song is about a mermaid trapped inside a box, like ballerinas in music boxes.
She switches from owner to owner; is taken from one place and left in another.
She does not have the power to escape, as she is decorative; fixed in to position.”

“Maybe because of the Mermaid statue of Copenhagen, who endures the touch of thousands and still stands despite their countless pictures and vandalisms.
Mermaid, maybe because I wrote it by a river, when I couldn’t be by the sea.
Mermaid, for the thousands of women who find themselves in situations without their consent.
